Discussion
A strong cold front will whip through the Mid-Atlantic region later today and it will usher in a very chilly air mass for the beginning of the long holiday weekend. After a relatively comfortable day today, temperatures will drop sharply overnight – perhaps even bottoming out in the upper 30’s in some isolated suburban locations well north and west of NYC. Despite plenty of sunshine on Saturday, temperatures will remain at below-normal levels, but then a noticeable warmup will take place for Sunday and especially Monday. While there can be a shower or two associated with today’s frontal passage, the next chance for any significant shower and thunderstorm activity will take place later Monday. That threat for showers and thunderstorms will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday as well and temperatures on those two days should climb well up into the 80’s.
