Discussion

Another Arctic blast is headed to the Mid-Atlantic region for the weekend and there will be a strengthening “clipper” low pressure system pushing eastward from the Ohio Valley towards the east coast. As a result, clouds will thicken up tonight and snow showers could break out early on Saturday. Periods of snow are likely on Saturday mixed with rain at times and then precipitation should become all snow early tomorrow night. Winds will pick up late in the day on Saturday and then could gust past 40 mph tomorrow night. Snow accumulations of a "coating to 2 inches" are possible by late tomorrow night; primarily, on grassy and other non-paved surfaces. The greatest chance for those higher amounts in that range will be in higher elevation locations to the north and west of the NYC metro region. Another widespread deep freeze is likely to occur throughout the area by early Sunday morning with overnight lows temperatures down in the 20’s. It turns milder again early next week, but the threat for showers will also return.
