Discussion

Another Arctic blast is headed to the Mid-Atlantic region for the weekend and there will be a strengthening “clipper” low pressure system pushing eastward from the Ohio Valley towards the east coast. As a result, clouds will thicken up this evening and snow showers could break out late tonight and periods of snow are likely on Saturday - possibly mixed with rain at times. Winds will pick up as the day progresses on Saturday with gusts past 40 mph likely by day's end and those strong gusts will continue tomorrow night. Snow accumulations of a "coating to 2 inches" are possible by later tomorrow night; primarily, on grassy and other non-paved surfaces. The greatest chance for the higher amounts will be in higher elevation locations to the north and west of the metro region. Another widespread deep freeze is likely to occur throughout the area by early Sunday morning with overnight lows temperatures way down in the 20’s. It turns milder again early next week, but the threat for showers will also return.
