Discussion
A line of strong-to-severe thunderstorms passed through parts of the Mid-Atlantic region in the wee hours of the morning and there is the threat for another such line later today and early tonight. Today will be another very hot day with highs way up in the 90's along with oppressive humidity levels and, as a frontal system approaches from the northwest, new showers and thunderstorms will break out across central and western sections of the Mid-Atlantic and then head in our direction. The most likely timetable for any shower and thunderstorm activity in our region is the rather usual time period for summertime around here; namely, the late afternoon and evening hours of about 4 to 10pm. The hot weather will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, but humidity amounts should be reduced some following the passage of today's approaching frontal system. By later in the week, temperatures will drop off a bit, but there will also be a daily threat for showers and thunderstorms.
As far as the weekend heat is concerned, high temperatures in the I-95 corridor reached well into the 90's on both days, but no records were set. Here are the specifics for a few selected cities along I-95 in terms of high temperatures for Saturday and Sunday: PHL 97, 95; BWI 98, 94: DCA 98, 97 and NYC 96, 94.
