Discussion

A substantial warm up will begin here this weekend and likely continue for a week to ten days, but we’ll have to go through another cold shot before we get to that point. Today will feature lots of clouds as one system passes by just to our north and a second system passes by just to our south. Showers are possible during the mid-day and afternoon hours and it is not out of the question that ice pellets or snow mixes in at times. Later tonight, these two systems will merge off the Northeast US coastline, a deep trough will form in the upper atmosphere, and NW winds will push colder air back into the region. High pressure returns by the weekend and, then shifts to a position off the east coast which will allow warmer air to move in from the southwest.
