Discussion

Over the next three days, there will be oppressive heat and humidity for the I-95 corridor, heavy rainfall at times, and possible strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity. High pressure will continue to influence our weather today and Thursday and it’ll produce some sunshine each day along with high heat and humidity. In fact, some locations could reach record high levels on Thursday afternoon. There will be enough instability in the atmosphere later today for some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region; primarily, north of the PA/MD border, and any storm that forms can be on the strong side with heavy rain, lightning and high wind gusts. As a frontal system slowly approaches the region later tomorrow night, our chances for showers and thunderstorms will increase and we are likely to see some heavy rainfall at times from later tomorrow into Friday night. In addition, there can be some strong-to-severe thunderstorms to deal with from later tomorrow into Friday night. Looking ahead, the weekend will feature much improvement with sunshine and more comfortable conditions.
