Discussion

Another soaking rain event is on the way to the Mid-Atlantic region as low pressure pushes towards the Northeast US today from the southern states. The steadiest and heaviest rain from this system should fall in the late afternoon and evening hours and temperatures will remain well below normal for this time of year. Once this system passes by to the northeast this evening, winds will intensify and cold air will pour in from the northwest - just in time for the weekend. Temperatures on both weekend days should be confined to the 40’s all along the I-95 corridor and the wind will remain a noticeable factor through much of the day on Saturday. On Monday, a large area of moisture will pull out of the Gulf states and heads towards the Northeast US. Rain is likely to arrive here on Monday night and, as low pressure intensifies near the Mid-Atlantic coastline on Tuesday, the rain is likely to become heavy at times. Once this system passes by to our northeast early Tuesday night, winds will intensify dramatically and another very cold air mass for this time of year will pour into the region for the mid-week.
