A cold front will pass through the region tonight and usher in slightly colder and drier air for Thursday which will feature increasing clouds ahead of the next low pressure system. This next low pressure is likely to bring some accumulating snow to the area late Thursday and Thursday night with a preliminary estimate of a coating to an inch or so for the DC metro region - higher amounts to the north and west and the lower amounts to the south and east. The snow could end as a bit of sleet or light freezing rain very early Friday morning and there can be a few slippery spots as a result. A significant storm is coming this weekend with everything still on the table from rain-to-ice-to-snow. Much colder air will pour in on the back side of the storm late Sunday and this could result in a "flash freeze" whereby roads, etc. ice up in a hurry. The coldest air mass of the year could result in single digit lows by Monday morning and highs no better than 20 degrees or so.
