Discussion

Low pressure will slide through the eastern Great Lakes region today and a strong cold front will trail on its southern side all the way into the southern states. Spotty and light precipitation may break out this morning and mid-day and then it should become steadire and heavier later this afternoon as the cold front arrives. Precipitation is likely to change to all snow by later in the afternoon and continues this evening. Untreated roads could deteriorate quite quickly late today/early tonight with dropping temperatures. Average accumulations in the area later today/early tonight in the 1-3 inch range, but a bit more than that is possible in western Chester, Upper Bucks and Northern Montgomery Counties and a bit less in Philly. A true Arctic frontal boundary arrives on Wednesday and it is likely to be accompanied by strong wind gusts, possible snow showers, and perhaps even a heavier snow squall. The best chance for snow on Wednesday will be between 10AM and 4PM. Arctic air then blasts into the Mid-Atlantic region on Wednesday night and temperatures could be near zero degrees in many spots by early Thursday morning.
