Discussion

Low pressure will intensify today over the Lower Mississippi Valley with a cold air mass in place across the Mid-Atlantic and NE US. There will be two different phases during this event with light, spotty snow for much of today and then heavier precipitation is likely late today and tonight and icing is the main concern for this round. Accumulations of snow today will be on the light side, but watch for slick spots on the roads in any heavier burst. With temperatures hovering near freezing tonight, icing will become the main concern; especially, across the northern and western suburbs and untreated roads can get quite slick. Precipitation continues on Tuesday mainly in the form of rain, but there can still be pockets of freezing rain and snow and sleet can mix in at times. It'll stay cold behind the storm on Tuesday night and Wednesday and then an even colder air mass will arrive for Thursday.
