It turned colder on Wednesday in the Mid-Atlantic region following the passage of a cold frontal system and a secondary surge will bring even colder air here for today and Friday. High temperatures are likely to be confined to the mid-to-upper 30’s over the next couple of days which is well below-normal for late February. In terms of moisture, a large area of moisture is breaking away from the southern states and heading northeastward to the southern Mid-Atlantic region. With cold air now in place, a significant snow event is likely from later today into tonight in the region from southern Virginia-to-North Carolina-to-upstate South Carolina. As has been the case for much of the winter season, it appears that once again, the DC-to-PHL-to-NYC corridor will escape this latest threat without any snowfall of note. There are some signs, however, for a pattern change that could result in more sustained cold air around here and perhaps a better chance at some snow as we progress through the last week of February and early March.
