Today will be another day featuring abundant sunshine and very warm conditions with temperatures climbing well up into the 80’s for afternoon highs throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. High pressure will be the main player through today, but an approaching cold frontal system later tonight will turn out to be a dominant player for the remainder of the week and weekend. This front will grudgingly slide across the region on Thursday and then stall just to our south at the end of the week ultimately allowing disturbances to track along its boundary zone.
As a result, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase here by this evening and the threat will continue on Thursday and Thursday night…any thunderstorm that forms in this stretch can be on the strong side. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will diminish some on Friday and then increase again on Saturday and Sunday; however, the weekend does not look like a washout. Additional disturbances will ride along the stalled-out frontal boundary zone into early next week and there is a good chance of showers on Monday, Memorial Day, and perhaps thunderstorms as well.
