Discussion
Strong high pressure builds just to the south of here today and it’ll be in control of the weather for the next few days. As it gradually slides to the south and east, a warming trend will get underway and temperatures will climb from a chilly start to the day this morning to near 90 degrees for afternoon highs on Wednesday and Thursday. The weather becomes somewhat unsettled late in the week with a weak upper-level trough forming in the eastern states.
One final note, while not a record, the low temperature of 48 degrees on Sunday morning at Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA) was the first June day below 50 since the 49 degrees on June 1, 1984, and the lowest June temperature since 47 degrees occurred on June 11, 1972 (which happened to be the month that featured Tropical Storm Agnes).
