Discussion

Following the passage of a weak cold front and combined with some more wildfire smoke in the area which can dim the skies at times, temperatures today will get knocked down a bit from recent days. The wildfire smoke had its origins in southern Canada and the low-level wind flow has pushed it into the Mid-Atlantic region. An active weather day is setting up for Saturday as a frontal system and an impressive wave in the upper atmosphere will likely produce numerous showers and thunderstorms during the first half of the weekend. Some of the storms on Saturday can be strong-to-severe and some of the rainfall can be heavy. The front should clear the area on Sunday with improving weather conditions likely going into the early part of next week.
