Discussion

High pressure will control the weather in the Mid-Atlantic region through tomorrow and then a weak cool front will arrive later tomorrow night. This front will usher in a cooler air mass for the early part of next week and, in fact, high temperatures are likely to be confined to the 70's on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. An area of clouds and moisture will hang around the southern part of the Mid-Atlantic region early next week and will likely generate considerable clouds around here along with cool conditions and the threat for a few showers.

The front will spark a few showers in the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday, but odds favor primarily rain-free weather continuing around here right into the middle of next week.

Discussion

High pressure continues to control the weather in the Mid-Atlantic region with comfortably warm days full of sunshine and pleasantly cool nights. This overall weather pattern will continue right through Saturday and then a weak frontal system could spark an isolated shower or thunderstorm on Sunday as slightly cooler air returns to the region.

Elsewhere, even though we are have just passed the climatological peak of the Atlantic tropical season, sea surface temperatures continue to run at above-normal levels near the east coast and throughout the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, there is still plenty of time and reason to believe that tropical activity can still have an affect on the US mainland this year as we progress into the fall season. In fact, there are currently two waves in the tropical Atlantic that will have to be monitored over the next several days as they head in a general westward direction over those generally warmer-than-normal waters.

7:00 AM | An unsettled weekend with additional rain and possible thunderstorms...some of the rain can be heavy

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Becoming mostly sunny, comfortable with lower humidity levels, highs in the lower 80’s

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cool, lows late in the low-to-mid 60’s

Saturday

Increasing clouds, cool, occasional showers and thunderstorms from mid-morning on, some of the rain can be heavy, upper 70’s

Saturday Night

Showers likely and possible thunderstorms, cool, some of the rain can be heavy, low 60’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, cool, lingering showers still possible, maybe a thunderstorm, mid 70’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, cool, mid 70’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, comfortable, near 80 degrees

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, nice, low 80’s

Discussion

Following yesterday’s rainfall and frontal passage, weak high pressure will push into the region to close out the work week. Another area of low pressure will push into the area over the weekend from the southeastern part of the country producing additional rain and thunderstorms later tomorrow morning into Sunday and some of the rain can be on the heavy side. High pressure will return to the Mid-Atlantic region early next week and it'll dominate the weather scene through at least the middle of next week. Temperatures throughout the next several days will stay quite comfortable with no 90 degree highs in sight.

7:00 AM | Front ushers in cool change...shower/storm threat today and it returns during the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cool, chance for lingering evening showers and thunderstorms, lows in the lower 60's late

Friday

Saturday

Partly sunny, cool, chance for showers and thunderstorms late in the day or at night, near 80 degrees

Sunday

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers still possible, maybe a thunderstorm, mid 70’s

Monday

Partly sunny, cool, mid-to-upper 70’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, pleasant, upper 70’s

Discussion

Temperatures reached 94 degrees yesterday at Reagan National Airport (DCA) and it may be quite difficult for us to have another 90 degree day this season - certainly no time in the near future. A strong cool front has reached the region and the result will be noticeably cooler conditions today compared to the past few days along with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain will be heavy at times as the front only slowly pushes through the region. Following the front, it’ll turn less humid on Friday and it’ll stay on the cool side right through the weekend. The weekend is likely to feature some additional rainfall as a strong disturbance pushes in from the Midwest.

7:00 AM | Shower/thunderstorm threat increases later today and likely to be widespread on Thursday...weekend looking iffy

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, hot and humid, chance for late afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs near 90 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers and thunderstorms, lows near 70 degrees

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, not nearly as hot, showers and thunderstorms likely, some of the rain can be heavy, near 80 degrees

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, chance for evening showers and thunderstorms, turning cooler late with lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Friday

Partly sunny, cooler and less humid, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, comfortable temperatures, chance for showers and thunderstorms late or at night, upper 70's

Sunday

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers likely and maybe a thunderstorm, mid 70’s

Monday

Partly sunny, comfortable, mid-to-upper 70’s

Discussion

High pressure will lose control of our weather later today as a frontal system closes in on the Mid-Atlantic region. This frontal system will bring us much-needed rainfall with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms from later this afternoon through tonight and then the likelihood of widespread showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. Following the front, cooler and less humid air will arrive on Friday and will last through the weekend. The weekend is looking somewhat questionable, however, as a Midwestern disturbance could cause showers around here later Saturday and especially during the day on Sunday.

7:00 AM | Frontal system to bring much-needed rain to the region next couple of days

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, patchy fog possible late, lows in the lower 70’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, hot and humid, chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms, near 90 degrees

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for showers and thunderstorms, near 70 degrees

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, not as hot, showers and thunderstorms likely, some of the rain can be heavy, mid 80’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, cooler and less humid, low 80’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, comfortable, maybe a shower, near 80 degrees

Sunday

Partly sunny, cool, upper 70’s

Discussion

High pressure will remain in control of our weather into tomorrow, but then a strong cool front will push into the region by Thursday. This frontal system will bring much-needed rain to the area with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms later tomorrow and the likelihood of widespread showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. Following the front, cooler and less humid air will arrive on Friday and last through the weekend.

7:00 AM | Warmer and more humid air moves in this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, warmer, highs near 85 degrees

Tonight

Mostly clear, mild, lows in the low-to-mid 60’s

Saturday

Mostly sunny, very warm, more humid, upper 80’s

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, upper 60’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, very warm, humid, near 90 degrees

Monday

Partly sunny, very warm, humid, near 90 degrees

Tuesday

Partly sunny, very warm, humid, near 90 degrees

Wednesday

Partly sunny, very warm, humid, near 90 degrees

Discussion

High pressure will shift off the east coast this weekend and that will open the door for warmer and more humid air to move into the region from the southwest. In fact, high temperatures by Sunday and Monday will flirt with the 90 degree mark up and down the I-95 corridor from DC-to-Philly-to-NYC and the very warm weather should continue on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
