Discussion

November gets off on a warm note this week in much of the eastern half of the nation and we’ll have a few chances to reach or surpass the 70 degree mark. Low pressure scoots off the east coast today and it’ll be followed by high pressure for the bulk of the week. A broad southwesterly flow of air will develop in the eastern half of the nation boosting temperatures to above-normal levels.

Discussion

A secondary cold front passed through the region on Thursday and the consequence will be a much cooler day to close out the work week. It’ll stay quite cool on Halloween Saturday as well, but milder air is likely to return for much of next week. In fact, next week looks warmer-than-normal for the eastern half of the nation as November gets underway. High temperatures could very well surpass the 70 degree mark in the DC metro region on a few occasions. One final note, it is time once again to turn the clocks back an hour (early Sunday).

7:00 AM | Mild today...much cooler on Friday and Halloween Saturday

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, windy, quite mild, highs in the lower 70’s

Tonight

Mostly clear, turning colder late, lows in the lower 40’s by morning

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, mild, mid-to-upper 60’s

Discussion

Today will be quite mild in the I-95 corridor with afternoon high temperatures reaching the 70’s in most spots. A secondary cold front will pass through the region in the overnight hours and it will usher in much cooler air to end the work week and begin the weekend. Highs on Friday and Halloween Saturday should be primarily confined to the 50’s along with rain-free conditions. Somewhat unsettled weather is likely to return for Sunday and Monday as low pressure forms in the southeastern states. Next week as a whole looks quite mild in the eastern 2/3rds of the nation. One final note, clocks are turned back an hour early Sunday morning.

Friday

Mostly sunny, much cooler, near 60 degrees

Saturday

Mainly sunny, cool, near 60 degrees

Sunday

Mainly cloudy, not as cool, showers possible, low-to-mid 60’s

Monday

Mainly cloudy, mild, more showers possible, mid-to-upper 60’s

Discussion

A significant rain event is underway in the DC metro region and it will continue into the overnight hours with one to two inches likely in most areas by the time it winds down. Low pressure will track up towards the Great Lakes region today and it will push a strong cold front towards the east coast. A secondary cold front will then follow by early Friday paving the way for a cool end to the work week and beginning of the weekend. It'll turn unsettled again at the beginning of next week as low pressure forms in the southeastern states. One final note: clocks are turned back an hour early Sunday morning.

7:00 AM | *Significant rain event on the way*

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Thickening clouds, cool, rain will develop this afternoon, highs in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Tonight

Cloudy with periods of rain, some of the rain can be heavy at times, cool, lows in the lower 50’s

Wednesday

Periods of rain, windy and becoming warmer, some of the rain can be heavy and there can be a rumble of thunder or two, upper 60’s

Wednesday Night

Showers likely, maybe a thunderstorm, some of the rain can be heavy, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, cannot rule out another shower, still quite mild, near 70 degrees

Friday

Mainly sunny, breezy, much cooler, upper 50’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, cool, near 60 degrees

Sunday

Partly sunny, milder, maybe a shower, mid 60’s

Discussion

A major rain event is on the way for the Mid-Atlantic region and it could result in a widespread area of 1.0 to 2.0 inches of rain by later tomorrow night. The combination of moisture left behind by Hurricane Patricia and a strong cold frontal system will generate rain in this area beginning this afternoon and the rain will fall heavily at times tonight and Wednesday. Winds could actually get quite gusty on Wednesday and there can be a rumble of thunder or two. The tropical air mass to our south will be forced to ride up and over the current entrenched chilly air mass in our region and this will contribute to the significant rainfall.

7:00 AM | *Significant rain event from late tomorrow into Wednesday*

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, cool, highs near 60 degrees

Tonight

Mainly clear, cold, lows near 40 degrees

Tuesday

Increasing clouds, still on the cool side, rain possible late in the day, mid-to-upper 50’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, cool, periods of rain and some of the rain can be heavy, low 50’s

Wednesday

Periods of rain, windy, warmer, some of the rain can be heavy and there can be a rumble of thunder, mid-to-upper 60’s

Thursday

Becoming partly sunny, cannot rule out a shower or two, mild, upper 60’s

Friday

Mainly sunny, breezy, cooler, near 60 degrees

Saturday

Mainly sunny, cool, upper 50’s

Discussion

The new work week will start off quite nice with dry and cool conditions thanks in large part to strong high pressure to our north. Meanwhile, some of the tropical moisture that remains from Pacific Ocean Hurricane Patricia will interact with a frontal system and head in our direction over the couple of days. The tropical moisture will be forced to ride up and over a chilly air mass that is currently in place here in the Mid-Atlantic region anchored by the strong high pressure to the north. As a result, rain is likely around here from later tomorrow into Wednesday and some of the rain can fall heavily at times. Also, winds could be quite gusty on Wednesday and there can be a rumble of thunder. A cold front slides through on Thursday – perhaps accompanied by a shower or two – and then it turns cooler to end the week.
