A strong wave of upper-level energy will push east into the Great Lakes region this morning and that will generate some instability across northern Alabama as a frontal system approaches and this could result in a strong-to-severe PM thunderstorm. The frontal will slide through on Saturday reducing our chances of rain, but then return on Sunday as a northward advancing warm front. The chance for showers and storms will increase on Sunday and as the front stalls out in the neighborhood that higher threat will continue on a daily basis in the Monday-to-Wednesday time period.

A developing trough of low pressure in the upper atmosphere near the Mid-Atlantic coastline will help push a front into this area and the result will be a high chance of showers and thunderstorms across northern Alabama and some of the rain can be heavy at times today and tonight. In addition, the hot conditions of recent memory will give way to much more comfortable temperatures and with highs not far from 80 degrees over the next couple days and that is despite the return of sunshine on Saturday.
