Clouds will increase today as low-level southeasterly flow develops in the region and it’ll stay on the cool side. The flow will become more southwesterly on Thursday night and Friday as a large trough moves closer to the Tennessee Valley. The threat of showers will return on Friday, but the weekend is looking dry and a warming trend will get underway.

A fast-moving disturbance will bring us the threat for more rain today, but it should pull out of here by tomorrow paving the way for dry and seasonable weather conditions on Thursday. Another disturbance should push clouds our way at the end of the week, but for now the weekend is looking pretty decent. In fact, a warm up should begin later in the weekend likely bringing temperatures to the middle 60’s for highs by early next week.

A cold frontal passage early today will diminish the chances for additional showers later today and then it’ll turn quite chilly in the overnight hours with lows in the mid 30’s. An upper-level trough will slide to the east of here on Saturday and the overall wind field will become rather zonal (i.e., west-to-east) keeping it relatively mild in northern Alabama.

The chance for rain will increase today as a strong upper-level trough of low pressure pulls out of the central Plains and into the Mississippi Valley. Low pressure will form over the central Plains and head towards the Ohio Valley by Friday morning. Its trailing cold front will slide towards the Tennessee Valley over the next 24 hours and contribute to our increasing chance of showers. The chance for rain should diminish later tomorrow as the upper low moves off to the east of here and high pressure arrives for the weekend.

Strong high pressure will build into the eastern US early this week and it should result in very chilly, dry weather for much of the time. Highs over the next couple of days will generally be confined to the 30’s but then we’ll move closer to the 50 degree mark at mid-week.

It’ll stay on the cool side today following the passage of a cold frontal system and then another cold front will arrive late tomorrow. Today should be rain-free, but the shower threat will increase by later tonight and continue on Saturday as the next front approaches the area and there can be a thunderstorm. Temperatures will hold in the 40’s on Sunday following the passage of the next strong cold front and do no better than 40 degrees early next week.
