The overall weather pattern across Florida is definitely showing signs of change as recent dry weather is now evolving into a daily threat of showers and thunderstorms. High pressure ridging will continue to pull away from the region today as low pressure builds across the upper atmosphere in the eastern US. The low-level flow will become broadly south-to-southwest and this will increase moisture in our area which will allow for the shower and thunderstorm threat to grow as we progress through the week. As a result of this undergoing pattern change, there is likely to be quite decent rainfall amounts around here over the next week to ten days which will continue to alleviate drought conditions.

High pressure ridging will pull to the north today through the region and low-level moisture will slowly increase in our area. This increase in moisture will allow for the increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms as we progress through the next few days. Ingredients are coming together today for the threat of severe thunderstorm activity in much of the Southeast US including the state of Florida. First, vigorous upper-level low is developing across the Southeast US and this system will only slowly move to the northeast over the next couple of days. Second, moisture will be plentiful around here as deep layer southerly flow ahead of a frontal system will tap tropical air over the Caribbean Sea and bring it into this region. Finally, a strong short wave will help generate surface low pressure over the Midwest and this will contribute to instability in this region. As a result of this unfolding pattern, thunderstorms later today, tonight and on Thursday can reach strong-to-severe levels in central Florida.

The weather will continue to be unsettled around here over the next couple of days as a large-scale upper-level trough sets up in the eastern US. Moisture content is sufficient for the chance of showers and thunderstorms across central Florida through tomorrow which is welcome news. However, some of the thunderstorms that form can be on the strong-to-severe side; especially, later tomorrow and tomorrow night. A weak frontal passage will bring some drier air into the region during the latter part of the week paving the way for a decent-looking weekend.

A weak frontal passage will bring some drier air into the region during the end of the week.
