WMA Thursday Forecast - Brutal heat and humidity for today will be followed by downward trend in temperatures and upward trend in thunderstorms
Paul Dorian
The brief, but brutal hot spell will continue for another day, but then some relief is in store for the DC region. A record was broken yesterday at Reagan National Airport airport as the thermometer reached 99 degrees and the record for today is 102 degrees. A weak cool front will cross the region tonight causing some scattered strong thunderstorms. Once this front drops south of here, it will stall out and our weather will remain unsettled right through the weekend as moisture will ride along the front. Another shower or thunderstorm is possible tomorrow with highs in the low 90’s – some 5-10 degrees lower than today. The weekend will bring a few showers and thunderstorms each day with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80’s before yet another front slides through from the west later on Sunday. Behind that frontal system, the early part of next week will be quite nice with sunshine and highs in the low 80’s. Today- brutal heat and humidity with plenty of sunshine, a late day thunderstorm is possible, highs in the upper 90’s, perhaps reaching 100 in a few spots
Tonight- scattered strong thunderstorms, mild, lows near 70
Fri- partly sunny, still very warm, but not like today, a shower or thunderstorm possible, low 90’s
Sat- mostly cloudy, a few showers and thunderstorms likely, mid-to-upper 80’s
Sun- mostly cloudy, a few showers and thunderstorms likely, mid-to-upper 80’s
Mon- mostly sunny, pleasant, low 80’s
Tues- mostly sunny, still pleasant, low 80’s
