9:00 AM Severe weather threat early tonight; severe late week heat
Paul Dorian
This will be the hottest week of the year so far in the Mid-Atlantic and the heat will be quite brutal here on Thursday and Friday. In addition to the threat for the late week severe heat, we have to watch for the threat for severe thunderstorms here early tonight as a frontal system drops southward from eastern Canada. This front will set off some severe thunderstorm activity that will contain damaging winds, hail and downpours that could affect us anytime between about 5 and 11PM. These storms will be dropping southeastward from northern PA along with the frontal system that should end up just to our south by tomorrow afternoon. Once that front then turns around and advances northward as a warm front, it’ll help to turn on the “atmospheric blow torch” and hot air will advance to the east causing temperatures here to approach 100 degrees on Thursday and Friday. Today- partly sunny, hot and humid with a thunderstorm threat very late in the afternoon, but more likely the storms will hold off until tonight, low 90’s
Tonight- thunderstorms likely and some of these will be severe with damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain, best chance for the storms is between 5 and 11PM, lows near 70
Tues- partly sunny, hot and humid, chance for another shower or thunderstorm, near 90
Wed- partly sunny, hot and humid, an isolated thunderstorm, near 90
Thurs- partly sunny, brutal heat and humidity, isolated thunderstorm, near 100 degrees
Fri- mostly sunny, very hot and humid, isolated thunderstorm, near 100
Sat- partly sunny, still hot and humid, isolated thunderstorm, mid 90’s
