Heavy showers and strong thunderstorms have broken out across northern Maryland and thus begins our widespread significant rain event. These current showers and storms will pound northern Maryland from Baltimore north and east over the next two hours. Additional showers and storms will occur overnight throughout the DC metro region and this prolonged rain event will likely continue off and on into Tuesday with some impressive final rainfall totals of at least a few inches in spots.
