Discussion

High pressure moves off the coast this weekend and will pump in more humid air from our southwest. Very warm and humid conditions are likely both weekend days with the threat for a shower or thunderstorm at anytime on Saturday and again late Sunday or Sunday night. A slow-moving cold front will cause more numerous showers and thunderstorms on Monday, and some of this rain can get heavy. Much cooler air moves in for Tuesday. Meanwhile, the tropics remain active and could play a role in our weather by the middle or latter part of next week. A tropical system is developing over the Gulf of Mexico and this will likely become a tropical storm named Lee during the weekend. It will dump heavy rain on the Gulf coastal regions, perhaps up to a foot and a half, and could throw some moisture our way by the middle of next week. Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Katia still churns in the Atlantic, should beceom a major hurricane early next week, and is still a threat to the east coast by the end of next week. Both of these tropical systems will have to be monitored closely over the next several days.
