6:20 PM | A batch of showers and storms will affect parts of the region later this evening

Paul Dorian

Scattered showers and strong thunderstorms are currently moving eastward from West Virginia and western Virginia and will affect parts of the Washington, D.C. metro area later this evening. The Virginia western suburbs (e.g., Chantilly, Manassas) and Maryland northern suburbs (e.g., Gaithersburg) will be the first to feel the affects of this batch of showers and thunderstorms between about 8 and 9 PM. The rest of the metro region can expect scattered showers and storms between 9PM and midnight. Some of the storms will produce brief heavy rain and strong, gusty winds.  More showers and storms are possible tomorrow as much cooler air moves in from the Upper Midwest.
