Discussion
The current upper air pattern is still quite energetic and more showers and thunderstorms are possible today and some of the rain that falls can be heavy at times. A strong cold frontal system will sweep through the region by later today and this will pave the way for a generally cool and dry weekend. Winds on Saturday, however, will be quite strong with gusts past 30 mph. If you're going to the Penn State game in Happy Valley on Saturday you can expect temperatures just past 50 degrees with a strong wind blowing and wind chills in the upper 30's to lower 40's. Calmer weather will occur on Sunday and Monday throughout the Mid-Atlantic, but it’ll still be quite cool and a shower or two cannot be ruled out for Sunday night and early Monday. A strong storm will affect much of the eastern half of the country by the middle of next week with rain likely along the east coast and perhaps enough cold air for some snow over the Great Lakes and upper Appalachian Mountains.
