Discussion

A strong low pressure system will move rapidly from the VA/NC border region early this evening to just off of Cape Cod by late tonight. This low will dump quite a bit of precipitation on the region with more than two inches of liquid equivalent possible over the next 24 hours. Colder air will move in around midnight and this will likely change the rain to snow between about 10PM and 1AM. The snow will likely last for a few hours and accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible in the northern and western suburbs (e.g., Chantilly, VA to Laurel , MD) with an inch or less likely in the District. The sun will return during the day on Thursday, but it’ll be breezy and chilly and dry weather is then likely for the next several days.
