Yesterday’s strong storm has raced northeastward into eastern Canada, but it will continue to buffet us with strong wind gusts of 30 mph or higher for much of the day. High pressure builds in by tonight and mostly clear skies along with diminishing winds will set us up for perhaps the coldest night of the season so far. Temperatures will drop to near 25 degrees in some of the coldest suburban locations. Late this week and this weekend, systems will move generally quickly along the northern tier of states producing nothing more a shower or two here in the DC metro region. Longer term, there are increasing indications that winter weather will return to the eastern US during the first couple of weeks of January. The first change in the overall mild pattern that we've experienced recently will be the intrusion of some very chilly air early to middle of next week that may very well be accompanied by some storminess along the east coast.
