Discussion
A very cold start today with temperatures in single digits in the lower Hudson Valley. Cold high pressure will move off the coast today and milder air will advance our way overnight and Tuesday. At the onset of the return to milder conditions late tonight, a little bit of sleet and/or freezing rain could break out for a short while. The timetable for the greatest threat for some icy conditions is from about midnight to 5AM; primarily in the Lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey. By Tuesday, plain rain will be the rule as temperatures approach 50 degrees. The warm up will be short-lived, however, as a strong cold front will pass through Tuesday night and cold air will return for the second half of the week. A clipper type system will then give us the chance for light snow Thursday night and then we'll have to watch a southern system which could give us more snow or rain late Friday night into Saturday.
