12:40 PM | Snow progressing towards the NYC region, but it will weaken on its approach

Paul Dorian

Discussion

As of the noon hour, it is snowing from Harrisburg, PA to Winchester, VA and the snow is progressing steadily to the east. Light snow should begin in the late afternoon hours across the NYC metro region although it can be mixed initially with rain, but the bulk of this precipitation from this system will stay to our south and west. Temperatures will drop from the mid-to-upper 30’s once the light precipitation begins so there can be a few slippery spots later this evening on the roadways. The light snow winds down by midnight with small accumulations by late this evening of a coating to an inch primarily south of the NYC region. As far as the weekend goes, a cold blast invades the region on Saturday and some snow is likely to accompany that intrusion of Arctic air.
