The powerful cold front that passed through the region last night is now well off the east coast, but the excessive wind gusts that developed in its wake will continue throughout much of the day possibly reaching 50 mph or so. In addition, there will be scattered bands of snow showers today that can blast through any part of the region at any time causing wind-whipped snow to fall for a brief period of time which could quickly lower visibilities and produce a coating on the ground. Winds will calm down tonight and Sunday will be a much more tranquil day.
