Summer officially got underway last night and balls were flying out of major league parks all over the country. The "home run weather" App index reached a maximum 10 out of 10 in many I-95 and Midwestern locations including such cities as Philadelphia (4 home runs), Boston (5 home runs), Milwaukee (5 home runs) and New York City-Bronx where 9 home runs were hit which was the most ever in a single game in the new Yankee stadium. Excessive heat and humidity will continue for one more day throughout the Mid-Atlantic region with afternoon temperatures approaching 100 degrees in many spots. Temperatures tomorrow will begin a "step-down" process with very warm and humid conditions, but not the extreme of today. A cool front will pass through the region later tomorrow and it will spark a few showers and thunderstorms and some of those storms can get quite strong. It'll be warm over the weekend, but the humidity will be lower and then even cooler weather is expected next week following another cold frontal passage in the early week time frame. The high temperature yesterday at Central Park was 94 degrees (not a record) and the record for today is 97 set back in 1953 and we should beat that mark.
