Discussion

The next few days will be quite interesting with extreme, and possibly record-breaking (99 degrees), heat today which will then be followed by the threat for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon through this evening and that will likely be followed by additional substantial rainfall on Thursday and Friday. A cool front will approach the Mid-Atlantic region later today and this will increase our chances for those late afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms could reach severe levels late today with heavy rainfall, possible damaging wind gusts and hail, and frequent lightning. The front will then stall just to our south and waves of low pressure will ride along that boundary zone over the next couple of days continuing our chance for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday and even into Friday and some of that rainfall will likely be heavy at times. High pressure will eventually take over on Saturday with less humid air moving into the region and this should set us up for a rather comfortable weekend.
