The Arctic floodgates have now opened up and we’ll have a very cold and wintry week here with the coldest three days likely being tomorrow through Thursday. As a secondary push of Arctic air pours into the region later today and early tonight, snow showers will break out and there can be a heavier snow squall or two or even a brief period of steady snow. Small accumulations on the order of a coating to an inch with some slippery spots are possible through early tonight. Temperatures will hold in the 30’s for highs today, drop to the upper teens overnight, and will do no better than the low or middle 20’s for highs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday, there will be a threat for more significant snow as a storm will approach the Mid-Atlantic from the Tennessee Valley and it’ll have quite a bit of moisture associated with it. Very cold air will follow that late week system for the upcoming weekend. Stay tuned.
