Discussion

Bitter cold conditions will continue today and the chill will be magnified by wind gusts of 30 mph or more which will generate dangerously cold wind chill values near or below zero. Low pressure will head from the Tennessee Valley on Friday to the Mid-Atlantic coastline and accumulating snow is likely throughout the region during the afternoon and evening hours. At this time, the late week storm appears likely to generate a light snowfall for the region on the order of 1-2 inches, and we’ll continue to monitor the situation for any late changes. More very cold air will follow for the upcoming weekend; however, moderation in temperatures is likely early next week. In fact, it'll turn much milder on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, but that warm up will be short-lived as colder air returns on Thursday.
