2:25 PM | ***Update on the major coastal storm - an increase in snow amounts for SE PA***

Paul Dorian

Discussion

All of the latest information continues to suggest a major storm will affect the Northeast US from tomorrow into Saturday with blizzard conditions in much of New England, New York State (including NYC) and even as far south as northern New Jersey. Snowfall amounts could reach two feet or more near Boston with wind gusts past 60 mph and a foot or more is likely around NYC with very strong winds as well. This storm will also likely include thundersnows as well for parts of the Northeast.

In our area, significant snow is likely to fall tomorrow night after a period of rain during the mid-day hours. The rain should change to snow in the Philly metro region during the late afternoon hours and will continue for much of the night and thundersnows are even possible around here. Accumulations on the order of 4 to 8 inches are expected at this time with the lower amounts in that range to the south and west (e.g. southern Chester County) and higher amounts north and east (e.g. Bucks County). Winds will also be a major fact tomorrow night in SE PA with gusts past 40 mph. The evening commute could turn out to be treacherous given the possibility of the changeover back to snow by that time. This is a dynamic situation so stay tuned for updates as these snowfall amounts can still be increased.
