All of the latest information continues to suggest a major storm will affect the Northeast US from tomorrow into Saturday with blizzard conditions in much of New England, New York State (including NYC) and even as far south as northern New Jersey. Snowfall amounts could reach two feet or more in and near Boston with wind gusts past 60 mph, and a foot or more is likely around NYC with very strong winds as well of 55+ mph. This storm will also likely include thundersnows for many parts of the Northeast.
Precipitation now appears less likely to change to plain rain in the NYC metro region as the rain/snow line may not quite make it this far north. As a result, while there may be a several hour period of mixed precipitation during the daytime, the changeover to all snow should occur by late afternoon and the snow will continue for much of the night, very heavy at times, and a thundersnow-storm can be included. The nighttime commute could become treacherous as a result of a changeover to snow by that time. Blowing and drifting will become a serious issue late tonight given the expected powerful winds and heavy snow.
