Discussion

The major coastal storm that we have been talking about for days now is beginning to take shape this morning along the coastal sections of North Carolina. It will intensify rapidly as it moves northeast to a position off the New England coast by early tomorrow. Temperatures will try to climb above freezing for awhile today with snow or mixed precipitation, but then it will change to all snow later this afternoon if a mix does occur. Snow will continue for much of the night and winds will become a major factor reaching 55+ mph with extensive blowing and drifting and there can be thundersnows in the mix. Accumulations expected on the order of a foot or more by early tomorrow morning with dangerous driving conditions.
