An active and complicated weather pattern continues today across much of the country ranging from near record warmth in the East to blizzard conditions in the nation’s mid-section and there will be a series of frontal systems to deal with around here between tonight and late Friday. Today will be another warm day around here with 80 degrees possible again for high temperatures, but much cooler weather will return by the time the weekend rolls around. This transition period from tonight to the weekend will likely be a bumpy ride for the Mid-Atlantic with possible strong thunderstorms and heavy rain in that time period as we make the transition back to more seasonal weather conditions. While today’s warm temperatures are forecasted with high confidence, the return of the dreaded back door cold front will make Thursday’s temperatures a tricky prediction. This back door front will drop southward through New England in the overnight hours and it may very well bring about an ocean flow on Thursday to places like New York City and Philadelphia which would make it considerably cooler than today. In fact, Thursday could turn out to be the type of day where temperatures hold in the 50’s in NYC, 60's in Philly while reaching the middle 80’s in DC. A strong cold front moves in from our west tomorrow night and Friday and this front will bring more rain and thunderstorms to the Mid-Atlantic region. Some of the thunderstorms between late today and late Friday will be strong and some of the rain will come down heavily at times. All fronts clear out of here by Saturday and sunshine will return, but it’ll be breezy and cool.
