Discussion
An active and complicated weather pattern continues today across much of the country ranging from near record warmth in the East to blizzard conditions in the nation’s mid-section and there will be a series of frontal systems to deal with around here between tonight and late Friday. Today should be another warm day in the NYC metro region with the 70’s likely for high temperatures, but much cooler weather is likely by early tomorrow following the passage of the dreaded back door cold front. In fact, winds could change to a northeasterly direction later today which would cause a drop in temperatures late in the day. That back door front will drop southward through New England today and it will bring us a persistent ocean flow of air around here on Thursday which will make it considerably cooler than today and bring us the chance for some light rain or drizzle. Indeed, tomorrow could turn out to be one of those days where the dreaded back door cold front creates big temperature differences in the Mid-Atlantic region featuring temperatures holding in the 50’s across New York City while they reach the middle 80’s in the DC metro region. A strong west-to-east moving cold front moves in from the Great Lakes region tomorrow night and Friday and this front will bring more rain and thunderstorms to the Mid-Atlantic region. Any thunderstorm that occurs between late today and late Friday can be strong and there will be some heavy rainfall at times. All fronts clear out of here by Saturday and sunshine will return, but it’ll be breezy and cool.
