Discussion
Temperatures will climb to the 60 degree mark today and will stay quite mild on Wednesday as well. Strong low pressure will move from the Ohio Valley on Wednesday to right over Pennsylvania on its way to the Northeast U.S. coastline by early Thursday. This track is one that will keep the I-95 corridor on the mild side of the storm while we are on its front side, but once the low pulls away to our northeast, colder air will rush in behind a powerful cold frontal system and the rain is likely to change to snow showers late tomorrow night and early Thursday. While little or no snow accumulation is expected in this area, there can be some icy spots late tomorrow night and early Thursday as temperatures will plunge to way below freezing by early morning. Significant snow from this upcoming storm will occur well north and west of here in upstate New York and interior New England where more than a foot can accumulate by later Thursday. Very cold conditions on Thursday around here will be accompanied by strong N-NW winds of up to 40 mph or so, and, despite some sunshine, temperatures will struggle to reach 30 degrees - way below the norm for this time of year. A quick modification in temperatures; however, will occur as we close out the work week and after a mild start to the weekend, temperatures will then trend downward early next week.
