Discussion
After a couple of nice and quiet days to start the week, the weather in the Mid-Atlantic region will become more unsettled today and into the late week time period. An upper-level disturbance combined with a nearby surface low pressure system will bring about an increasing chance for showers around here by tonight and this threat will continue on Thursday as well. The weekend, however, is looking quite nice as high pressure will likely be sprawled out across the entire Northeast US. At the same time, low pressure will try to form near or just off the Southeast coastline. For now, it looks like the high pressure system will win out around here for both days of the weekend.
Elsewhere, strong upper-level ridging will bring tremendous heat to portions of the Southwest US in the Sunday through Tuesday time period. Phoenix, AZ could hit 120 degrees by late in the weekend and Death Valley, CA has an outside chance to top out at 130 degrees early next week - a feat not reached there since 1913.
