Discussion
Brutal cold greets the new work week this morning and the good news is that it will retreat over the next couple of days, but the bad news is there may be some frozen precipitation in that transition to milder conditions. Arctic high pressure will push of the coast early this week and a series low pressure systems will track across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. Precipitation could arrive here from one such system later tomorrow and it could still be cold enough for snow, sleet and/or freezing rain; especially, in the far northern and western suburbs, before an eventual transition to plain rain. Much milder conditions are in store for the Wednesday through Friday time period. Looking back at the Saturday snowfall, Philly Airport officially came in with 3 inches and there was considerably more down at the Jersey Shore with less in the far northwest suburbs. Looking ahead to this weekend, developing Arctic high to the north could present problems for us in leading to the potential for some icing.
