Discussion
A warm front pushed through the Mid-Atlantic region late yesterday and its passage along with an advancing strong cold front will set the stage for an unseasonably warm end to the work week. Ahead of the strong cold front, winds will pick up noticeably and temperatures should surge into the 70’s. In addition, showers are likely; especially, during the afternoon and evening hours and there can be a strong-to-severe thunderstorm mixed in as well. Following the cold frontal passage, it’ll turn progressively colder this weekend as strong high pressure builds to our north across southeastern Canada. By the end of the weekend, we’ll have to monitor the progression of moisture from the south-central US. Given that the entrenched cold air mass that will be reluctant to retreat, any precipitation that arrives late Sunday night or early Monday could be in the form of snow or a mix of rain and snow in at least parts of the region.
