A very active weather pattern is going to continue for the next week or two partly as a result of continuing cold air outbreaks into the central and eastern US. These cold air outbreaks will combine with increasingly warm and humid air across the southern US to make it quite unstable on many days going forward in many parts of the nation and severe weather outbreaks are likely. In the short-term, a nearby frontal boundary zone will continue to keep it somewhat unsettled around here today with isolated showers and thunderstorms. On Thursday, a strong cold front will cross the region and it will be accompanied by showers, perhaps even a strong thunderstorm. Winds will increase dramatically later tomorrow and they'll continue at strong levels tomorrow night and Friday - perhaps even with damaging wind gusts. Another storm system could impact the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday night and Monday and there is the potential for some heavy rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic region.
