Discussion

The current stretch of mild weather will come to a peak today with a breakout of sunshine this afternoon and temperatures reaching the mid-to-upper 60’s.  A cold front, however, will push through the region later in the day and this will lead to tumbling temperatures during the overnight hours and set the stage for a wintry weather event from later tomorrow into early Friday. During the day on Thursday, there can be some scattered, light rain, ice and/or snow in the region and then the precipitation should become heavier and more widespread early tomorrow night. Snow is possible for awhile early tomorrow night, but this should change to sleet and then to freezing rain with a buildup of ice possible on untreated surfaces. The threat for freezing rain will continue into early Friday morning with temperatures for the AM commute likely still near freezing in many suburban locations.
