6:00 AM | Still unsettled today with threat for showers/storms...nice weather for Thursday/Friday...summer-like this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

More clouds than sun, not quite as warm, still the chance for lingering showers, maybe a thunderstorm or two, highs near 80 degrees

Tonight

Mainly cloudy, mild, still the chance for a shower and thunderstorm, patchy fog possible late, lows in the upper 50’s

Thursday

Partly sunny, nice, mid-to-upper 70’s

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, mid-to-upper 50’s

Friday

Partly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, warm, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, low-to-mid 80’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, warm, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm, mid-to-upper 80’s

Monday

Partly sunny, warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, mid 80’s

Discussion

A weak cool front passed through the region late yesterday and it has stalled out just to our south. This proximity to the front will mean lingering showers are still possible today in the local area and perhaps there will even be a thunderstorm or two. Nicer weather will return for Thursday and Friday and the weekend is looking summer-like with temperatures well up in the 80's and the humidity will even become rather noticeable.

6:00 AM | Cool front increases the chances for showers and thunderstorms later today

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, still quite warm, late day showers possible, maybe a thunderstorm, highs in the low-to-mid 80’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers possible, maybe a thunderstorm, lows near 60 degrees

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, not quite as warm, a couple of showers still possible and maybe a thunderstorm, upper 70’s

Wednesday Night

Mainly cloudy, mild, maybe a shower or thunderstorm early, upper 50’s

Thursday

Mainly sunny, nice, mid-to-upper 70’s

Friday

Mainly sunny, warm, near 80 degrees

Saturday

Mainly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, quite warm, mid 80’s

Discussion

Temperatures climbed well into the 80’s on Monday along the I-95 corridor and the 80’s will likely be reached again today, but the approach of a cool front later in the day will increase the chances for showers and scattered thunderstorms. The cool front will stall nearby on Wednesday and that proximity will keep the shower threat on the table for tomorrow, but nice weather is likely to return for Thursday and Friday - and perhaps even last right through the upcoming weekend. Elsewhere, a slow-moving “tropical-like” system will form this week off the Southeast US coastline and there is a chance that it develops into the first officially-named (Ana) tropical system of the season.

7:00 AM | A preview of summer with temperatures in the 80's

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, quite warm, highs in the low-to-mid 80’s

Tonight

Mainly clear, mild, lows near 60 degrees

Tuesday

Partly sunny, still quite warm, late day showers possible, maybe a thunderstorm, low 80’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, mild, showers possible, maybe a thunderstorm, near 60 degrees

Wednesday

Partly sunny, warm, maybe a shower or thunderstorm, near 80 degrees

Thursday

Mainly sunny, warm, upper 70's

Friday

Mainly sunny, warm, near 80 degrees

Saturday

Mainly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Discussion

High pressure is in control of our weather in the Mid-Atlantic region as we start the new work week and warm air will push in from the southwest boosting afternoon temperatures to 80+ degrees. It’ll stay warm on Tuesday, but the approach of a cool front will increase chances for showers later in the day and at night, perhaps even a thunderstorm, and that front could stall nearby causing somewhat unsettled conditions on Wednesday. Elsewhere, a slow-moving “tropical-like” system will form this week off the Southeast US coastline and there is a small chance that it develops into the first officially-named tropical system of the season.

7:00 AM | Cool today, but noticeably milder this weekend and downright warm early next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly cloudy, quite cool, showers possible primarily during the morning hours, light NE winds, highs in the low-to-mid 60’s

Tonight

Mainly cloudy, chilly, still the chance for an early isolated shower, lows in the mid-to-upper 40’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, milder, an afternoon shower or thunderstorm possible, low-to-mid 70's

Saturday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, near 50 degrees

Sunday

Mainly sunny, nice, mid-to-upper 70’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, warm, low 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, warm, showers possible late, low 80’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, still quite warm, showers possible, near 80 degrees

Discussion

A storm well off the Mid-Atlantic coastline will continue to produce a low-level flow of cool air off the ocean (NE winds) and this will keep temperatures down today to below-normal levels. However, once the weekend begins, this flow off the ocean will terminate and it’ll turn noticeably milder by tomorrow afternoon although there can be a shower or thunderstorm anywhere along and west of the I-95 corridor. It’ll turn even warmer early next week with the mid-to-upper 70’s likely for highs on Sunday and then 80+ degrees possible on Monday and Tuesday.

7:00 AM | Cooler and damp weather next couple of days...decent weekend and warm next week with 80's for highs

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly cloudy, cooler than yesterday, occasional showers possible and maybe a thunderstorm, light NE breeze, highs not far from 70 degrees

Tonight

Mainly cloudy, chilly, occasional showers possible and maybe a thunderstorm, light NE breeze, lows not far from 50 degrees

Friday

Mainly cloudy, quite cool, occasional showers possible, light NE breeze, low-to-mid 60's

Friday Night

Mainly cloudy, chilly, still the chance for a shower, mid 40’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, milder, cannot rule out a couple of afternoon showers, near 70 degrees

Sunday

Mainly sunny, nice, mid 70’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, even warmer, low 80's

Tuesday

Partly sunny, quite warm, maybe a late shower or thunderstorm, mid 80’s

Discussion

Get the air conditioner ready as next week will turn warm with 80+ degrees likely for high temperatures by Monday afternoon. First, we'll have to deal with cooler and damp weather as we close out the work week as a storm organizes off the Mid-Atlantic coastline. Even though the brunt of the storm will remain off-shore, a persistent low-level flow of air out of the NE will form and it'll push in cooler air off the ocean into the I-95 corridor. As a result, temperatures today will be noticeably cooler than yesterday and highs on Friday may struggle to climb out of the low-to-middle 60's along with an occasional shower. The beginning of the weekend will feature improvement and noticeably milder conditions; however, a shower or two cannot be ruled out for Saturday afternoon. High pressure takes full control by Sunday which should turn out to be quite pleasant and then it'll turn downright warm early next week with 80+ degrees likely for highs on Monday and Tuesday.

7:00 AM | Spectacular today...cooler and damp on Thursday, Friday

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Sunny, quite mild, highs in the low 70’s

Tonight

Increasing clouds, chilly, lows in the upper 40’s

Thursday

Mainly cloudy, cooler, occasional showers possible and maybe a thunderstorm, upper 60’s

Thursday Night

Mainly cloudy, chilly, occasional showers possible and maybe a thunderstorm, upper 40’s

Friday

Mainly cloudy, quite cool, occasional showers possible, near 60 degrees

Saturday

Partly sunny, milder, cannot rule out a shower, upper 60’s

Sunday

Mainly sunny, nice, mid 70’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, even warmer with the 80’s possible for high temperatures

Discussion

Today will be a spectacular day as high pressure remains in control, but then the weather goes downhill. A storm will organize near the Mid-Atlantic coastline later tomorrow and it will produce cool, damp conditions in the region as we progress through the rest of the work week. High pressure will return for the weekend and generate pretty nice weather around here on Saturday and especially Sunday and next week looks quite warm with the 80’s likely for highs.

7:00 AM | Coastal storm threat later this week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, breezy, mild, highs in the mid-to-upper 60’s

Tonight

Mostly clear, chilly, lows in the middle 40’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, mild, near 70 degrees

Wednesday Night

Increasing clouds, cool, chance for rain towards morning, near 50 degrees

Thursday

Mainly cloudy, cool, occasional rain likely, low-to-mid 60’s

Friday

Mainly cloudy, still on the cool side with showers possible, low 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, milder, near 70 degrees

Sunday

Mainly sunny, warmer, mid 70’s

Discussion

Weak high pressure will build into the region today and it’ll turn milder as sunshine returns following yesterday’s unsettled weather conditions. Tomorrow will also turn out to be a relatively mild day with plenty of sunshine, but then the weather goes downhill. A storm will organize near the Mid-Atlantic coastline on Thursday and likely generate occasional rain in the I-95 corridor which could even linger into Friday. It’ll be much cooler-than-normal on Thursday and Friday given the expected abundant cloud cover and potential occasional rainfall.

7:00 AM | A bit unsettled to start the new work week...coastal storm watch for the late week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

PArtly sunny, breezy, still on the cool side, chance for afternoon showers, highs not far from 60 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, chilly, maybe a shower, lows in the lower 40’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, milder, mid 60’s

Tuesday Night

Partly cloudy, chilly, mid 40’s

Wednesday

Mainly sunny, milder, near 70 degrees

Thursday

Mainly cloudy, cool, occasional rain possible, low-to-mid 60’s

Friday

Mostly cloudy, still on the cool side with possible showers, low 60’s

Saturday

Mainly sunny, milder, low 70’s

Discussion

An upper-level disturbance will cross over the Northeast US today and it could generate a few showers in the local region. Weak high pressure will then build into the region on Tuesday and, following that, attention will turn towards an area of moisture in the Southeast US at mid-week. This moisture is likely to consolidate with developing low pressure near the east coast during the second half of the week. As a result, rain is possible in the I-95 corridor on Thursday from this potential coastal storm and the threat for showers may last into Friday. Both Thursday and Friday will be quite cool for this time of year given the expected abundant cloud cover.

7:00 AM | Chilly pattern continues to end the work week...weekend looking questionable with rain likely

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Mainly sunny, still quite chilly and breezy, highs in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Tonight

Mainly clear, cold, patchy frost possible towards morning in suburban locations, lows in the low-to-mid 30’s

Saturday

Increasing clouds, chilly, showers likely late in the day, upper 50’s

Saturday Night

Mainly cloudy, chilly, occasional rain, low 40's

Sunday

Morning clouds and lingering showers likely then becoming partly sunny late, chilly, upper 50’s

Monday

Mainly sunny, cool, near 60 degrees

Tuesday

Partly sunny, cool, low 60’s

Wednesday

Mainly cloudy, milder, chance for rain late, mid 60’s

Discussion

Today will be another breezy, chilly day in the Mid-Atlantic region with temperatures well below normal for this time of year. Temperatures are likely to drop into the lower 30’s in many suburban locations in the overnight hours and patchy frost is quite possible by early tomorrow morning. An area of showers just to our southwest early tomorrow will expand northward later in the day and the result will be occasional rain around here from late tomorrow into early Sunday.

7:00 AM | Colder pattern has set in and will stick around...frost possible in suburban locations next few nights...significant coastal storm on the table for late next week

Paul Dorian

6-Day DC Forecast

Today

Limited sunshine today with a buildup of billowing cumulus clouds, quite breezy and chilly, cannot rule out an afternoon shower or two, highs in the mid-to-upper 50’s

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, cold, cannot rule out some patchy frost late, lows in the low-to-mid 30’s

Friday

Mainly sunny, breezy, chilly, mid-to-upper 50’s

Friday Night

Mainly clear, cold, cannot rule out some patchy frost late, low-to-mid 30’s

Saturday

Increasing clouds, chilly, showers likely late in the day and at night, upper 50's

Sunday

Early clouds and lingering showers to give way to partial afternoon sunshine, cool, near 60 degrees

Monday

Mainly sunny, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, cool, low-to-mid 60’s

Discussion

The combination of cold air and warm sunshine will destabilize the atmosphere this morning and partly cloudy skies will give way to a significant buildup of cumulus clouds by mid-day and there is the possibility of a shower or two this afternoon. A strong cold frontal passage on Wednesday ushered in a pattern change that will bring the Mid-Atlantic region colder-than-normal weather conditions not only for the rest of the week, but also likely for the rest of the month. Overnight lows in the 30’s in suburban locations will be the norm for the next few nights and frost is not out of the question early Friday morning and again early Saturday morning. An area of showers just to our southwest on Saturday could push just far enough to the north to generate a few showers in the local area from late Saturday into early Sunday. Looking ahead, many computer forecast models are forecasting a significant east coast storm next week in the Wednesday-to-Friday time period.
