7:00 AM | Unsettled pattern going through mid-week

Paul Dorian

Quite a pattern change is in store for the eastern US this week as large-scale upper-level troughing will set up and result in a couple different frontal systems that can impact our weather.  The first front of note is likely to swing through the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday/Tuesday night and this will raise our chances of showers and thunderstorms.  Another front is likely to push through the region Wednesday/Thursday and this will keep it unsettled around here until drier air arrives late in the week.

High pressure in the eastern half of the nation will continue to provide us with very warm conditions and highs not far from the 90 degree mark this afternoon.  The threat for showers and thunderstorms will stay with us through the weekend as moisture has increased in the area and the greatest chance will likely be later Sunday into Monday as a strong cold front approaches the region.

7:00 AM | Dry again today, but weather pattern gets quite unsettled beginning tomorrow afternoon

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging in the eastern US will continue to support dry and very warm conditions around here in the Tennessee Valley, but deep upper-level low pressure across the western US will increasingly impact our weather here as we progress through the week.  In fact, a surface front will take shape in the Central Plains over the next couple of days along the eastern flank of the upper level trough and our weather will become quite unsettled with a daily shot at showers and thunderstorms beginning on Thursday.

7:00 AM | Very warm to start off the new week...shower/storm threat returns during the second half of the week

Paul Dorian

High pressure ridging in the eastern US will support very warm conditions around here in the Tennessee valley for much of the week.  At the same time very warm air dominates the eastern US, very chilly air for this time of year will dive into the western US.  The result of this clash of cold air to the west and warm air to the east is likely to result in a widespread severe weather outbreak during the mid-week in the central Plains.  We’ll monitor this unfolding pattern to see if any severe weather can make it into the local region later in the week.

7:00 AM | *Some storms later today can be on the strong-to-severe side*

Paul Dorian

A frontal boundary zone will approach the Tennessee Valley today raising our chances for showers and thunderstorms during the mid-day and afternoon hours.  Some of the storms later today can be on the strong-to-severe side with gusty winds and hail.  The weekend will feature improving weather conditions following the frontal passage and Mother’s Day should turn out to be quite a pleasant day with plenty of sunshine and warm conditions.  By the time the middle of next week rolls around, there will be much warmer-than-normal air in the eastern US and very chilly air for this time of year across the western US.  As a result, there is likely to be a widespread severe weather outbreak in the "clash zone" (central Plains) around the middle of next week and we’ll monitor any potential impact around here from this unfolding scenario.
