High pressure will build into the region today and provide us with decent weather as we close out the work week. Low pressure will form over the northern Gulf by this weekend and then pull to the northeast and this system could result in some shower/thunderstorm activity around here. With the increasing chance of some rain this weekend will come a bit of a warm up and temperatures could reach 80 degrees for highs by Monday.

Pleasant and dry weather will greet the new week with high pressure in control; however, a warm front will return tonight bringing some clouds and perhaps some shower and thunderstorm activity. As an amplifying trough approaches the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday, the chance for rain will increase and some rainfall can be heavy at times. By the middle of the week and after the passage of a strong cold front, high pressure will build back into the area and this will bring us a return to cooler conditions. Highs could actually be confined to the 60’s on Wednesday and Thursday in this cooler air mass.

7:00 AM | *Noticeably cooler as we begin a new week with occasional showers and possible strong thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

As a result, temperatures will be confined to the low-to-mid 70’s for highs and there are likely to be some showers and thunderstorms across the area as a cold front swings through. Any thunderstorm that forms later today can generate heavy rainfall. A seasonal fall day is expected tomorrow as northerly flow will continue across the area. Another cool front arrives here late in the week bringing with it another cooler air mass for the Tennessee Valley the weekend.

As a result, after a couple more hot days across the Tennessee Valley, we’ll cool down some on Sunday and then even more as we begin the new work week. In fact, high temperatures on Monday afternoon could be confined to the middle 70’s as compared with the middle 90’s of the past few days.
