An upper-level trough will kick out of the central US and only slowly push through the eastern states over the next few days. At the same time, an increasingly moist flow of air will develop on the backside of high pressure off the eastern seaboard. This combination will keep it warm and increasingly humid around here with a good chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms can be strong and some of the rain is liable to be on the heavy side from later tomorrow into Thursday night.

An elevated chance of showers and thunderstorms continues around here through tonight in an unstable and very warm atmosphere, but any price we pay will be made up this weekend. The weekend looks drier and temperatures should be quite comfortable and there should be plenty of sunshine throughout the holiday weekend. It will turn more humid by next Tuesday and Wednesday and the chance of showers/storms will increase.

An upper-level ridge of high pressure continues to be the main player around here with surface high pressure positioned over the western Atlantic Ocean. The combination of the two systems will produce very warm conditions across northern Alabama over the next couple of days and an elevated chance of showers and thunderstorms. The weekend looks drier and temperatures should be quite comfortable, but it’ll turn very warm early next week with the middle 80’s likely for afternoon highs on Monday, Memorial Day.

Sprawling high pressure over the northeastern quadrant of the nation will be our main player during the next several and the main culprit behind the season’s first extended stretch of unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures today will peak in the low-to-mid 80’s across the northern part of Alabama and edge higher to the low-to-mid 90’s by the early part of next week. The overall pattern looks to be rain-free through the weekend with an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
