Temperatures late tonight will drop to chilly levels in the middle 40’s, but some quick modification in this cool air mass will bring us comfortable high temperatures on Thursday and Friday. The weather will become unstable today ahead of an approaching upper-level trough with strengthening low-level winds and an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms. There is even the chance that some of the thunderstorms that form later today can reach severe levels with damaging wind gusts a possible threat. A cold front crosses the area late tonight and tomorrow will turn cooler and temperatures late tomorrow night should bottom out in the middle 40’s.

The weather will begin on the warm side early this week following the re-positioning of high pressure this past weekend off of the eastern seaboard. As a result, a southwesterly flow of air formed and pumped milder air into the Tennessee Valley from the Gulf of Mexico region. Strong low pressure will develop across the south-central states over the next 24 hours or so and it can bring showers here later tomorrow/tomorrow night as it begins a move towards the Great Lakes.

The chilly air mass of the past few days will modify and retreat to the north today as a light south-to-southwesterly flow of air develops in the region on the backside of departing high pressure. As a result, it’ll turn noticeably milder today with afternoon high temperatures back up in the 70’s and the mild conditions will last through the weekend as well.

Temperatures late tonight are likely to drop to near the freezing mark once again with patchy frost quite likely to be widespread. A warming trend gets underway on Thursday and really kicks into gear by the time we get to the upcoming weekend.

Vigorous upper-level low pressure has pushed into the eastern US and with it some of the chilliest air so far this season for the Tennessee Valley. High temperatures today will be to the lower 50’s which is well below-normal for this time of year. Temperatures during the next couple of late nights will drop to near 30 degrees and patchy frost is possible. Noticeably milder conditions will return to northern Alabama by the upcoming weekend after high pressure pushes to a position off the eastern seaboard.

Vigorous upper-level low pressure will push into the eastern states over the next 24 hours and this will bring some of the chilliest air so far this season to the Tennessee Valley. In fact, the core of the coldest air in this outbreak relative-to-normal will be across the Tennessee Valley and Deep South. High temperatures will be in the 60’s today, but then only the 50’s on Tuesday and Wednesday which is well below-normal for this time of year. Low temperatures will drop well down into the 30’s during the next couple of nights and this will raise the chances for late night frost in many locations.

High pressure will settle in near the east coast for the next couple of days and temperatures here will trend up from the mid 70’s this afternoon to near 80 degrees on both weekend days. A deepening upper-level trough of low pressure will drop southeastward early next week and the result here will be quite a cool down with some of the coolest weather so far this season on Tuesday and Wednesday.
